Don’t Let Israel Define Antisemitism
25 August 2026
The Jewish Council of Australia is asking Australian governments and institutions to reject the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, and to use the Australian Human Rights Commission’s National Anti-Racism Framework instead.
- The petition says the IHRA definition has been used to shut down Palestinian human rights advocacy by treating criticism of the Israeli state as hatred of Jewish people.
- Racism against Jewish Australians is real and must be fought. The petition’s argument is that this particular definition does not do that job, and harms other communities in the process.
- The Jewish Council of Australia is aiming for 30,000 signatures before it delivers the letter.
The Ulama Board of Western Australia encourages our community to read the petition and add their name.
